About the RMC
The Racquetball Manufacturers Council, (the RMC), is a relatively new, major component in bringing together all the factions of our great sport of racquetball. With a mission statement of, “Dedicated to growing the sport of racquetball”, the RMC is placing it focus on the players, the Court Owners and Operators, and the sport as a whole.
The RMC is a non-profit industry organization that was formed in 2000 at the US OPEN Racquetball Championships under the umbrella of the Sports Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA). The union between the world's leading racquetball manufacturers including E-Force, Ektelon, Head/Penn Racquet Sports, Pro Kennex and Wilson was formed. The RMC operates with the objective of increasing the market through a joint effort of supporting programs and projects that will bring new players to the sport as well as maintaining those that are playing now.
Plan for growing the sport of racquetball?
- The RMC is working to serve as a catalyst in uniting the efforts of the racquetball industry as a whole. The success in maintaining and eventually growing the sport of racquetball lies in the unity of its many factions. As we combine the efforts and energies of all the different parts of the sport, and work in harmony, we have the best chance to succeed in growing. The “parts” of the racquetball industry include: Court Owners, and their racquetball playing members, (recreational and competitive); the many racquetball related associations, including USA Racquetball (formally the USRA), the Juniors’, Seniors’ and Masters’ groups; the State Racquetball Associations; AmPro; the IRT, LPRA, and Legends Pro Tours; the colleges, universities and other racquetball court facilities; and the manufacturers themselves, and their merchandisers.
- The RMC recognizes the importance of supporting the Court Club and racquetball facility Owners and Operators in marketing and promoting the sport. A primary objective of the RMC in growing the sport of racquetball is to develop and share proven court club practices and programs, that will:
- Increase racquetball member retention
- Attract new racquetball members
- Fill the courts, and
- Grow the revenues derived from racquetball.
RMC History
By using its combined strengths from the key manufacturers in the sport, the RMC has a unique ability to support the game across all avenues. Early projects and initiatives from 2000 – 2003 have included:
- Support of the 2002 World Championships in Puerto Rico, with a grant to the International Racquetball Federation (IRF). Through this grant the RMC is involved in a massive campaign to strengthen international racquetball programs and initiatives.
- The RMC funded a two year grant to the USRA National Junior Council whose duties include administration of national junior and high school programs.
- Another ongoing RMC project is to support the American Professional Racquetball Organization (AmPRO). Through clinics and classes to train and certify programmers and instructors, AmPRO is a vital part of the organization of Racquetball nationally, and worldwide.
